Environmental projects and Poverty Alleviation

We are also integrally involved in poverty alleviation for rural villagers by the provision of sustainable livelihoods; this objective dovetails nicely in with another of our passions - environmental responsibility.

Embrace is concerned with people and their ongoing well-being. By necessity, this involves ensuring the environments in which they live are safe, healthy and sustainable. Unfortunately, in recent decades, we have witnessed a decline in biodiversity as our ecological footprint has risen. As part of its strategy to tread softly on the planet Embrace is proactive in planting trees that will absorb CO2 and therefore offset the detrimental impacts of energy consumption. This initiative donates walnut saplings to impoverished families in rural villages in Sichuan. Not only is this a bonus for the environment but once the trees begin bearing this will enable these villagers to escape the poverty trap. Most of these communities are struggling to cope with rebuilding after the devastation caused by the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. As an additional benefit and a means of ensuring ongoing sustainability of the project, the empowered stakeholders 'pay it forward' by providing a share of their revenue to enable more saplings to be provided for neighbouring families in their local region. These partnerships ensure this win-win scenario can be replicated elsewhere.
